OpenID and SAML supported Internet services are much in advance. But not every company or Internet service is in a position to invest in IT security and offer usually a username/password authentication method.

To allow its users (private and business) a strong authentication (2- and 3-factor), the Internet services integrate OpenID or SAML protocol and trust in the user authentication to an independent Internet Identity Provider (IIP). With the clavid Internet Authentication Service (cIAS) you can create the detachment of proprietary identity management systems of the Internet Services. The management and verification of a personal digital identity can be processed by a neutral and trusted instance.

A company can use its internal authentication solution (e.g. PKI with SSL client certificate, username/password, SAML tokens, etc.) to get access to available Internet services, without to care about additional infrastructure and protocols (OpenID 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, SAML 1.1, 2.0, or proprietary tokens).

Ideally the user don't realize that OpenID or SAML are used in the background for the authentication process. The authentication runs as usual and completely transparently.
